INDUCTION CEREMONY EVENT INFORMATION

On Thursday, October 20, 2022, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame (NCMHOF) will hold its 2022 Induction Ceremony at the historic Gem Theatre in Kannapolis, NC. Click below for further event information:

Inductions take place annually at the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame to honor music legends with roots in North Carolina. This year’s inductees are:

Stephanie Mills
Nnenna Freelon
Janet Paschal
Bernard Edwards
Charlie Poole

Guests will enjoy red carpet walks by the inductees from 6:30-6:50pm and the Induction Ceremony program beginning at 7:00pm. The ceremony will take place at the historic Gem Theatre in Kannapolis, NC. The ceremony will feature each inductee’s acceptance of their induction, video presentations, and live performances.

Please have your tickets available for entrance and re-entry at the Gem Theatre. Doors open at 6:00pm.

NNENNA FREELON (Durham, N.C.) – Six-time Grammy nominee jazz vocalist, composer, actress, and producer who is known worldwide as a compelling and captivating live performer. Nnenna toured with Ray Charles, Ellis Marsalis, Al Jarreau and others; her accolades include performances at the White House and the Asia Pacific Economic Summit for three hundred Presidents, Premiers and Heads of State.

JANET PASCHAL (Reidsville, N.C.) – Gospel vocalist, author, and songwriter known for recordings such as “Written In Red”, “I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel”, and ”Born Again”. As one of the most soulfully versatile voices in Christian music, she has earned multiple Dove Awards, Singing News Fan Awards, and Grammy nominations. She performed for Rev. Billy Graham, Bill & Gloria Gaither, President George Bush, and many others. Paschal recently became a member of the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee.

STEPHANIE MILLS (Charlotte, N.C.) – Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, actress, and Broadway star who has called Charlotte her home for more than 30 years. Mills’ career spans over five decades with her rise to stardom as “Dorothy” in the original seven-time Tony Award winning Broadway run of the musical ‘The Wiz’. She has won multiple awards including a Grammy, NAACP Image Awards, and an American Music Award to name a few.

BERNARD EDWARDS (Greenville, N.C.) – Bernard was a bass player, singer, songwriter, and record producer known for his work with guitarist Nile Rodgers, with whom he co-founded funk/R&B band Chic. He is also credited for work with artists and groups such as Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Johnny Mathis and many more. Hit songs to his credit are “Le Freak”, “Dance, Dance, Dance”, “Good Times”, and “We Are Family”.

CHARLIE POOLE (Statesville, N.C.) – Charlie was a country music pioneer, banjo player, recording artist, songwriter, and leader of the North Carolina Ramblers, a string band that recorded many popular songs in the early 1900’s. His hits, including “Don’t Let Your Deal Go Down Blues”, were considered country music mega hits of its time. Charlie strongly influenced later banjo players, including those who would become the creators of bluegrass and modern country music such as Earl Scruggs, Don Reno, and Snuffy Jenkins.

Each year, some of our current and past NCMHOF inductees perform live at the ceremony. This year’s live performances include:

  • The Bernard Edwards Tribute

Tickets: $75 each

All attendees are VIP’s at this year’s event! Guests will enjoy watching the pre-ceremony red carpet arrivals, then the 7:00pm Induction Ceremony. The ceremony will take place at the historic Gem Theatre in Kannapolis, NC and will feature each inductee’s acceptance of their induction, video presentations, and live performances. Please note: there will be no pre-ceremony reception.

Upon arrival you will show your tickets at the check in & information table. You may bring your printed ticket OR show your digital ticket on your smartphone. Tickets will be scanned & you MUST receive an armband for entry and re-entry at the Gem Theatre doors. Doors open at 6:00 pm. All tickets are general seating which includes the main floor and balcony seats. The balcony is accessible by stairs only, no elevators are available at this time. Upon arrival, all guests should check-in at the black Hall of Fame “Check- in & Information” table. You MUST have your tickets with you. You may bring your printed ticket OR show your digital ticket on your smartphone. All tickets will be scanned & you will receive an armband. You MUST show your armband for entry and re-entry at the Gem Theatre doors.

No. Our annual induction event welcomes all ages. This is an educational, entertaining and historical event that no one will want to miss!

No. For the 2022 Induction Ceremony all guests may choose their seats upon arrival.

There is no elevator access at the historic Gem Theatre. The Gem Theatre balcony seating is accessed ONLY from stairs. Seating includes the main floor and balcony seats. Limited accessible seating is available on the floor level at the Gem, please call (704) 934-2320 for more information or assistance finding an accessible seat. 

Yes. The Gem Theatre concessions will have sodas, candy, and their famous popcorn.

The “Taste of the Hall of Fame” is a unique menu created by Chophouse101 and the NC Music Hall of Fame. We worked closely with the 2022 inductees to create each individual item so you can experience the “Taste of the Hall of Fame”:

There are currently no scheduled meet & greet sessions. Inductees are scheduled to attend the Induction Ceremony at the Gem Theatre. If circumstances prevent an inductee from attending, they will be honored and inducted into the Hall of Fame by a representative who will accept the induction on their behalf.

Cameras are allowed at the red carpet & ceremony. NO smoking or vaping at the venues. NO outside food or beverages are allowed. NO pets except service animals.

If for any reason the Induction Ceremony events are cancelled or if the inductees are not in attendance, there will be no refunds. When purchasing your ticket, you will be asked to confirm this information.
