The Grammy-winning artist, singer, and songwriter passed away today at the age of 88. A native of Black Mountain, North Carolina, Roberta Flack’s incredible journey from the Blue Ridge Mountains to becoming one of the most celebrated voices in music is a testament to her remarkable talent and resilience. Flack’s contributions to jazz, R&B, soul, and pop music are unparalleled, and her unmistakable voice captivated audiences around the world.
Flack’s music transcended genres and generations, with timeless hits such as “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” and “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” each of which became anthems of love, heartbreak, and human connection. Throughout her career, she garnered four Grammy Awards and was celebrated for her unique blend of soulful delivery and exquisite musicianship.
